JANET HANSON Obituary

JANET LEE HANSON (Age 61)
Janet Lee Hanson died on September 11, 2015, at her home in Baltimore after a brief illness and decline. She was bright, confident, clever, and competent and a good friend to all who knew her. A nurse practitioner last working with the University of Maryland Sleep Disorders Center, Janet engaged in interesting work helping others, with an additional specialty in oncology. She earned degrees from the University of Maryland, Georgetown University and the Johns Hopkins University. Her life was full of curiosity, adventure and friendships. As a newly registered nurse, she worked at a private school in Switzerland and on a cruise ship for a time. But she returned to her beloved Baltimore and, furthering her education, she took on a series of dogs and cats and indulged in her passion for jewelry-making and crafts. Her friends and family remember her wicked sense of humor, her artistic eye, and her generous nature. She is predeceased by her father, Richard Phillip Hanson, and her mother, Eleanor Tomlin Helms Ward. She is survived and will be missed by her siblings, Katherine "Kitty" Smith and Robyn Webb, her stepfather, Robert F. Ward, her stepsister, Lydia Ward Gray, her niece, Katherine "Kathy" Smith, nephew, Nathaniel Ward Chene, a raft of cousins, aunts and uncles, and a large gaggle of fabulous friends. In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held this Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. The service will be followed by a reception and remembrances of her life. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, or to the charity of your choice.
