JANET LOWENBACH Obituary

JANET LESLIE LOWENBACH
Janet Leslie Lowenbach, 72, of Harpers Ferry, WV and formerly of Chevy Chase, MD, passed away on July 21, 2015 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, William Lowenbach; children, Michael Wiener (Elizabeth), Evelyn Polesny (Michael), Anne Peyer (Jon), and Nicholas Lowenbach; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Janet graduated with honors from Smith College and began her career as an intrepid photojournalist covering a vast range of issues with a specialization in health for the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun and other publications. Janet was a legendary hostess in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and more recently Harper's Ferry, a passionate flautist since high school, a powerful swimmer, avid hiker and was at work on a memoir. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 24 th at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. Interment will be private. Janet was a friend from the writer's group, who I lost touch with years ago. A brilliant woman who was modest about her many achievements. Too bad.

I'm still in disbelief. My outrageous, dear and beloved cousin is gone too soon. My only comfort is that perhaps she is with her mom. I will miss your misspelled emails and fast-talking phone conversations. You will always be in my heart. Love Enid

We are so saddened to learn of Janet's death. We were hoping to visit Janet & Bill this August, and to share in bright conversation and wonderful food at their table! We will always remember her. What a remarkable woman!

I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of Janet, to whom I was married from 1967 to 1990. She was widely appreciated for her vivacity, her love of entertaining at grand dinner parties, and her devotion as a mother to our children Michael and Evelyn. She will be missed by many.
