John Kingery Obituary

KINGERY

JOHN CABELL KINGERY

John Cabell Kingery of Charlottesville passed away July 22, 2022 after nearly three years sparring with pancreatic cancer.

A northern Virginia native, John attended the University of Virginia, the University of Edinburgh, and Harvard Law School. A well-known international trade attorney, John worked in all aspects of trade including government (ITC, USTR), industry (United Technologies and Samsung), inter-governmental (World Trade Organization), and private practice.

John loved his family and his friends, his dogs, Maine and Scotland, hiking and kayaking, reading history and writing.

He leaves behind his wife, Elyse of Charlottesville, his son, Jacob of Manassas, his sister, Rebecca of Arlington, and many lifelong friends and colleagues around the world.

He joins his parents Helen and John, and sister, Judy.

The last words he spoke and the last words he heard were the same: "I love you." And really, isn't that all any of us truly wants in the end?

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org/donate.

A celebration of John's life will be held in the fall.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.

John was my roommate for a couple of years in law school. He was a good guy and I was sad to hear of his demise.

Condolences to his family for the loss.

My deepest condolences to Elyse and Jacob on John's passing. We shared so many good times together beginning when our families met in Geneva in 1997/1998. I always loved John's sardonic wit and appreciated his well informed opinions on politics, trade, his beloved Scotland, people in general. We spent some fun times together skiing in Switzerland, dinners back and forth, and enjoying several wee drams at the Kingery house in Great Falls, Va. I miss you, John. Rest in peace, friend.

What a remarkable man. I wish I'd had the opportunity to meet and know him.

John offered friendship and kinship as fellow Americans abroad in Switzerland and in France, and at 15 employed myself and a friend in settling in his home in France. We have had many happy times since... I miss him already.
His wife Elyse and son Jacob are in our hearts and prayers.
