Doc Sparrow, a man that loved life to its fullest and lived it without any apologies. He loved his family and friends, enjoyed laughter, and stepping out with his white shoes at Summertime. When I think of Doc, I think of him with my father and the few select buddies that used to meet at my dads house on Fridays (after work) to imbibe, tell tales, and laugh throughout the evening. Without a doubt whenever you see Doc he would greet you with a smile, a loud howdy do, followed by a chuckle and a hug. Thoughts of him bring a smile to my face. I miss him as much as I miss my folk, Gloria and Leroy Dove. My family was truly blessed and still grateful to have had Doc in our life. The years have passed but know that we love him and he continues to live on in our memories.

Dr. Sparrow was my inspirational mentor and very dear friend. From the moment we met in 1996 as he interviewed me for a teaching job, we developed a special connection. He was was my advisor and confidant who taught me so much about leadership and the art of teaching. As a school administrator and leader, I now emulate all of the lessons I learned from him. I will always aspire to reflect his character and integrity in my professional and personal decisions. His wonderful sons, John and Victor, were the lights of his life. He was so very proud of them both. I will always love Dr. Sparrow. He lives in my heart and will never be forgotten. Other than my father, he was the greatest man I have ever known. Thank you Dr. Sparrow for all that you did in your remarkable life.

Dr. Sparrow...thank you for not only being a great principle but a great person...you will always be a Marie H Reed Tiger...before and after school you stood outside to make sure all the kids were safe...I will never forget you..as you embedded some of the great morals you stood by into a young black male that is now a man!

John was one of the most delightful persons I have ever known. He always had a great smile and his personal way of greeting his friends, "Hey Good Buddy". John was a great colleague who was always willing to share his insight on what was best for children and what worked. I will truly miss my friend.
Rest in peace John as you have touched the heart of so many of your colleagues and the children of the district of Columbia.

I was truly honored to have been interviewed by Dr. Sparrow and he brought me on to his team at Reed in 1992. He had faith in me as a new educator and I am still in the field 22 years later because of him. May his soul rest in paradise.
