A touching piece by Tom Brokaw this evening shows that Kareem holds a special place in the memories of many people. It opened my mind and my heart to who he was and what he did. It is good that his bravery and dedication to his country are remembered as well as his life and the noble things that he did. Thoughts are with his proud family and those who love him too. A special man, God bless

Hi Kareem,
My name is Meriem, and I am originally from Morocco. This morning, before El- Fajr prayer, I stumbled upon a video on YouTube where collin Powell mentioned the name of an American Muslim Hero by the name of Kareem Rachad Sultan Khan. I googled your name, and within seconds of reading your story, tears were rolling down my cheeks. Your sense of courage, belief in your faith, honor, and desire to serve your country with pride and dignity, inspired me to the point of getting up and praying Salat al Fajr for you.. (Believe me when I say this; the last time I prayed was in Ramadan).. I know that many of us will never have the courage to give up our lives to protect our faith and our country in hopes of a better
tomorrow. You did more than that, and are a true hero!
We, as Muslims and Americans, are forever grateful.

dearest sheba khan,
do you remember us? we met at the graves of our sons at arlington cemetery on a beautiful indian summer day. We were coming from germany, sharing our memories, emotions our sorrow and pride over
our beloved sons. laurent and kareem, both coming from completly different environments, but both believing and fighting for the same cause, the freedom of the iraqi people. they both gave their lives for the country they loved so much. our sons probably never met. now, at arlington cemetery, their graves are only a few yards apart. that is where we met, two mothers mourn over our beloved sons, together with justine and matthew. to be able to talk with you ment a lot to us, we will not forget our emotions. we wish kareem and laurent with all of our heart to rest in peace - and maybe we will meet again at arlington cemetery on a beautiful indian summer day. our deepest respect for our muslim brother, kareem, to his mother sheba and his relatives,

Your memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you, as well as in the hearts of those of us who never had the pleasure of knowing you. Your fellow citizens are grateful for your service and sacrifice. Please know that in your brief time in this life, you did make a difference. God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.
These are words we dimly hear:
You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing.
Embody me.
Flare up like flame
and make big shadows I can move in.
Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don't let yourself lose me.
Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousnes.
Give me your hand.

Thank you, and may your sacrifice and selflessness never be forgotten especially in this time in which the constitutional freedoms of Muslims are under constant assault in our country.
You made the greatest sacrifice so that even those who might hate you would have the freedoms of our most precious law - the Constitution.
Because of your efforts, these rapturous times will pass and just as the sacrifices of our Japanese American, African American, and other brothers in arms are commemorated today - so you shall be.
No words could do justice to your sacrifice, so let our actions speak for us - for generations to come. We who are indebted to you will follow your lead in defense of our great law and not let it be in vain.
I also thank your family a thousand times for their sacrifice. Now you must go on carrying the burden in your heart - but may those who recognize what he has done and would wish to emulate his courage lighten this burden.
Your son's heroism will remain in the back of my mind, and I will continue on his defense of the Constitution of our great land.
