LOUIS MARZETTA Obituary

LOUIS ANGELO MARZETTA
Beloved husband of Rose Marie Saur Marzetta, died August 11, 2016, at 96 years of age. A resident of the Washington area since the 1940s, he lived for decades in Montgomery Village before moving to Chevy Chase in 2015. He was born in Hopedale MA on May 17, 1920, the youngest child of Italian immigrants Ambrogina Mazzuchelli and Edoardo Attilio Marzetta. He served as a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII, performing studies of radar at the Naval Research Lab Chesapeake Bay Annex and aboard destroyers in the North Atlantic. From 1948 through 1977, he worked as an electronics engineer at the National Bureau of Standards (now NIST), conducting research that yielded several patented inventions. He earned a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland in 1963. In retirement, he devoted many hours to painting artistic works that captured the beauty of nature and his memory of happy times in New England. In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by five children (Cecilia McVoy of Warminster PA, Barbara Marzetta of Washington, Thomas Marzetta of Summit NJ, Susan Marzetta of Baltimore, and Elaine Lacy of Hanover NH), 11 grandchildren (Matthew, Maria, and Emily McVoy; Katharine, Kimberly, and Meredith Liu; Sarah Marzetta; Laura and Caroline Schneider; and Colin and Hannah Lacy), and two great-grandchildren (Michael and Rosina Van Istendal).  A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda MD.
