MARY CHILDERS Obituary


Mary Ellen Childers (Age 66)  
Of Derwood, MD, passed from this life on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Gordon Thomas Childers and the daughter of the late Francis Joseph Marshall and Claire (Shea) Marshall.  A lifelong resident of Montgomery County, she was a 1973 graduate of Richard Montgomery High School.  Mary Ellen cherished her family and dogs, and her home was always a gathering place for all. Many have said that when they hear the word family they immediately think of Mary Ellen.  Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gordon Childers, along with her sons John Childers and Craig Childers (Erin), and her daughter Brittany Nichols (Scott); grandchildren Maddie Childers, Abby Childers, Mary Kate Childers, Lily Childers, Liam Childers, Keith Nichols, Austin Nichols, and Alanna Nichols; siblings Deborah Vaccaro, Julie Coakley (Terrance), Patricia Catalano (John), Claire Twigg, Elizabeth Marshall, Robert Marshall, and David Marshall. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Francis Marshall and Brian Marshall (Mary).  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 25 at 12 p.m., at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Dr, Potomac, MD. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD.  In lieu of flowers, Mary Ellen's family would appreciate memorial contributions to her favorite charities: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital [stjude.org] and Shriners Hospitals for Children [donate.lovetotherescue.org]. Please sign the family online guestbook atwww.pumphreyfuneralhome.com
