Michael Singer Obituary

Michael Lewis Singer, of Washington DC, passed away on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at the age of 71. He is survived by his beloved husband, James Kimon Smith; caring son, Geoffrey Kimon Smith (Lindsay Loper Smith); loving sister, Abby Singer (James) Klar; grandson, Waylon Reynolds Smith; and devoted nephews, Zachary Klar and Benjamin Klar. He was predeceased by his dear parents, Elaine and Edward Singer.
A professional in the fields of marketing and finance, Michael was a resident of Capitol Hill for over 35 years and made a new home together with James in Chestertown, Maryland. Michael graduated from the University of Chicago with a major in English and his master's in marketing from the University of Baltimore. In addition, he attended the Wharton Executive Education program in organizational leadership. Michael lived life to its absolute fullest. He was dedicated to the arts and to ensuring that others have the opportunity to experience the finest cultural gifts that our nation's Capitol and Chestertown have to offer. He served as a leader on several boards. He loved architecture and historical preservation. His Jewish heritage and traditions were important to him. He loved his family. Michael's extended family includes Geoffrey, Lindsay, Waylon, Kyle, Ryan, Brendan, and Kip. He loved the outdoors and he shared eight of his happiest years with his beloved husband, James.

Funeral services are private. Please refer to Sol Levinson's website for Shiva information, at sollevinson.com. A celebration of life will be held in Washington DC at a later date to be announced. Please omit flowers. Contributions in Michael's memory can be made to Mosaic Theater, online at mosaictheater.org; or to The Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center (EDCJCC) online at edcjcc.org; or to Sultana Education Foundation, online at sultanaeducation.org.

What a terrible loss. Michael and I shared a birthday. He was a kind and friendly young man, and I was lucky to call him friend.

Jill and I are so sorry to hear this sad news. Jill met Michael in graduate school and worked with him through her business for many years when he worked at Fannie Mae. And Alan knew Michael through Jill and also while Alan was at Fannie Mae. This is so sad. May his memory be for a blessing.
