MYRTLE VAN LAAR Obituary


MYRTLE VAN LAAR (Age 91)  
Of Silver Spring, MD went to be with Jesus on May 26, 2017. She is survived by her brother, John and Barbara Van Laar (Michigan); and many generations of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She graduated Calvin College then University of Michigan with two Master's degrees. She taught in local Christian schools before moving to MD with friends to start the Washington Christian School, now Washington Christian Academy. She retired at 76 as a librarian in P.G. County, MD. Myrtle was an accomplished artist and poet. A true child of God, as she testified in her recently published book of poetry "Under His Wings" in her poem "Walking with Jesus". A memorial service is planned on June 7, 11 a.m. at the National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., Washington, DC. Funeral services will also be held in Grand Rapids, MI later. A kind, caring person has gone to be with the Lord. I am grateful and was blessed with her friendship. Her ministry on earth was a blessing to many.

My sincere condolences to Myrtle's entire family. She was a very dear friend to my aunt Seniye Temel. We would speak periodically over the phone and I had the pleasure of meeting her several times when I was down in the Washington area. Myrtle is in our thoughts and prayers.
