Richard Adler Obituary

Richard C. Adler (Age 73)

Richard C. Adler of Arlington, Virginia passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Andrea K. Nordell, daughter, Layla Adler and sister-in-law, Marge Nordell, and a loving extended family. Born and raised in New York City, Richard graduated from George Washington University and received his graduate degrees from American University. After completing his education Richard continued to build his life in the DMV area. Richard met Andrea through mutual friends who thought they would be compatible as fellow New Yorkers. Richard was devoted to his daughter Layla whom he adored and whom adored him in kind. He was passionate about travel, art, music and family. On many of his visits to extended family in the Catalan region of Spain he was introduced to the Jewish Museum in Girona, where he became a member of the US committee to expand and enhance the resources of the museum. His contributions were recognized by inclusion of his name on the wall of honor. On a trip to Africa he became ill and was treated at a rural hospital in Tanzania. As a result he continued his support of FAME through his lifetime. Richard had a great sense of community often immersing himself in specific projects. He was Vice President of the Shirlington Civic Association for a decade until he moved to Arlington Ridge. Throughout his world travels he collected art and artifacts which he displayed in the home he shared with Andrea and Layla. He was especially proud of his contemporary glass collection. A service will take place at Agudas Achim Congregation on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Agudas Achim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Agudas Achim Congregation or Virginia Hospital Center's Galen Society, or Fame Hospital in Tanzania (fameafrica.org) in Richard's honor. Please view and sign the online guestbook at JeffersonFuneralChapel.com. Shiva will be observed Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Adler-Nordell Residence.
