ROBERT KRICHMAR Obituary

KRICHMAR ROBERT LAWRENCE KRICHMAR, M.D. Robert Lawrence Krichmar, M.D., passed away peacefully the morning after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2015, in Silver Spring, Maryland at the age of 93. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts in March 1922 to Joseph Krichmar and Dena Bornstein Krichmar. He graduated from Boston Latin School and Boston University with honors, majoring in Romance Languages. He graduated from The George Washington University Medical School following his naval service in World War II commanding a landing craft on Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion and later completing his overseas service in the Pacific. While on military leave for a few days in Scotland, he met Josephine (Joyce) Porter and they married in Edinburgh in July of 1945. Robert joined a private family medical practice in Washington, DC where he delivered hundreds of babies and made countless house calls to patients of all ages throughout the area. Following his retirement from private practice, Dr. Krichmar was invited to join the staff of the Leisure World Medical Center, where he enjoyed the satisfaction of continuing to help others while finding a new group of dear friends and colleagues who once again found value in his diagnostic gifts, thoughtful care, violin accompaniments, humor and generosity. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Josephine (Joyce), his son Donald and his sister Louise Mirkin. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands; Dena and Joseph Sherry of Medford, NJ, Naomi and John Ritchie of Austin, TX, Anita Krichmar and Sam Brooks of Arlington, VA; grandchildren Colleen and husband William Mullin, Robert Sherry, Vincent Sherry, Alexandra Ritchie, David Ritchie and Matthew Brooks; great-grandchildren Emily, Katherine, August, Brayden and Victoria. He is also survived by loving cousins, nieces and nephews in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, England, Scotland, France and New Zealand. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, December 11, at 10 am at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, MD, 20814. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Dear Krichmar Family,

Dr. Krichmar was our family physician for many years, beginning when we lived a block apart on Dalewood Drive. We continued to see him at the Alaska Avenue practice. He set the standards for what a doctor should be: knowledgeable, concerned, patient, skilled. We trusted him completely to care for us. I was delighted to see him again at my own father's memorial service a few years ago; how incredibly kind it was of him to attend. Dr. Krichmar truly was one-of-a-kind. My heartfelt condolences to all of you.

Sincerely,
Nancy Easter Proia

Dear Krichmar Family,
I want to extend to you my most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. K. He was my doctor and more importantly my friend who cared for me for 40 years. I will always remember his dedication and compassion for his patients and his wonderful sense of humor. His common sense approach to the practice of medicine combined with his skill of its practice and his caring and calming demeanor will be his legacy. A truly great doctor but more importantly a great man. God bless him and God's peace and grace be with all of you.

Dena, Naomi, Anita and Family - I was sorry to hear about your father. He provided prenatal care for my my mother and delivered me. He was my physician until he closed his practice at 7733 Alaska Avenue until he closed the practice. I always think of him when I see a Norman Rockwell print featuring a family doctor :) . He and your mother were at my wedding because he was like family to us. I will never forget his compassion and I've never had a doctor care for me as he did. He will be remembered as a compassionate caring person. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

Sympathies to the Krichmar Family. Dr. Krichmar was our Doctor about 60 years ago (I believe on Alaska Ave).

Dena,
I just saw the obituary for your dad and wanted to extend my condolences to you, Joe and your family. Was in Kensington fairly recently & wound up on the street where you grew up. Our years together at FDU came flooding back. My best to you all.
