SMALLWOOD ACKISS, JR. D.D.S. "Bully"
On Sunday, January 30, 2011, Dr. Smallwood Ackiss, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD, died at Washington Hospital Center. He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Ackiss; loving daughter, Lynn (Bryant) Sugg; adored grandchildren, Leigh and Dennis Sugg; dear siblings, Jeanne Davis and Patricia (William) Simmons; step-sister, Barbara (Kenneth) Polston; nieces and nephews, Terri and Frank Davis III, Barry and Mallory Simmons and other caring relatives and friends. He served as corporal in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Dr. Ackiss practiced dentistry for over 30 years in Washington, DC area. On Saturday, February 5, 2011, visitation from 10 a.m. until funeral service 11 a.m., at HINES-RINALDI FUNERAL HOME, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. Interment at Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville, MD.

He took excellent care of my entire family's dental needs for many years, after Dr. Joe Earle became ill.
My children,sister(June), husband & I saw him until he retired. We'll miss him.

So very sorry to hear of Dr. Ackiss' passing. I worked for the dentist that shared his office located on Georgia Ave. maybe 15 years ago. My prayers are with the family.

OMG!! Dr. Ackiss [Sr., I believe] vaccinated me in 1956 [and all of my other eleven sibling].... when his practice was at 6 and 1/2 St., NW, D.C. I remember that he gave us candy afterwards. Rest In Peace both Drs. Ackiss. anita j. thomas

Dr.Ackiss was my dentist as a teenager attending Cardozo High School and later when I was employed at the Wonder bread bakery a few blocks from his office on Georgia ave.He was like one of my friends.Peace be with you.
