Formerly of Beaver Heights, MD, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at the National Health Care Center in Columbia, SC. Born November 4, 1906 in Chesterfield, SC; educated at Haines Institute in Augusta, GA; graduated from Shaw University and received a Masters in Christian Education from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. Her work in Washington, DC included many years at Sergeant Memorial Presbyterian Church; and she also helped to establish a church in the Union Presbytery-Faith United. Mrs. Odom was ordained and commissioned as a full-time Presbyterian Church leader in May 1953 by the Presbytery of Washington, DC until her retirement from the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ms. Marian Miller of Wilson, NC; a niece, Ms. Sylvia Anderson of Glendora, CA; cousins, Ms. Edith Chappelle of Columbia, SC and Ms. Helen Jones of Washington, DC; a great nephew, Mr. Johnny Anderson of Atlanta, GA; and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2003 at Northminister Presbyterian Church, 6717 David Street, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Club Program of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, c/o Ms. Mary Weithers, 1313 New York Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20005. A.A. Dicks Funeral Home, Columbia, SC, is in charge of arrangements.
