THOMAS Martin Connor MD.

Thomas Martin Connor, M.D., F.A.A.P., F.A.C.C., USN Capt. (Ret.), of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away in Livingston, NJ, on June 24, 2022, with his daughter, Coleen Connor, by his side. He was 82.

A Vietnam-era and Gulf War Veteran, Dr. Connor served over 20 years in the Navy and practiced medicine over 55 years. He exemplified a selfless life of service to his family, friends, patients, and country.

Born in Nyack, NY, on August 28, 1939, Tom was the eldest of three sons of Thomas J. and Sarah M. Connor. Tom graduated from Don Bosco Preparatory High School in 1957, St. Francis College in 1961, and attended medical school at the University of Bologna in Italy, where he graduated with honors in 1966. Shortly before graduation, Tom married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (O'Hara) Connor, on July 25, 1964, and they had four children.

Following a Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Yale University, Tom was stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, in 1972. While there, he served as Director of Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, and was promoted to Captain. He also served on Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force, was a professor at Uniformed Services University and had numerous publications in journals, textbooks, and reference books.

Tom transitioned to private practice in New Jersey, and opened offices in Fair Lawn, Clifton, and West Orange. In 1990, he was activated for Operation Desert Shield/Storm and deployed to Saudi Arabia with Fleet Hospital 15, which provided front-line medical treatment to service members and humanitarian care to women and children. Thereafter he returned to his medical practice until retiring in 2022. While he received numerous citations and accolades, he was most proud of his service to this country, the care he provided to his patients, and his family.

Tom is predeceased by his parents: Thomas and Sarah Connor, and his brother, John M. Connor. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Connor; his children: Thomas Connor, Coleen Connor, Peter (Kristen) Connor, and Sean (Angie) Connor; his beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Poppy": Fiona, Rory, Emmett, Vincent, and Macy; his brother Timothy (Margaret) Connor, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was waked June 30, 2022, at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home in Roseland, NJ, and his funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Thomas Fallone, was held at St. Thomas More in Morristown, NJ, on July 1, 2022.

Dr. Connor will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on December 22, 2022, at 3 p.m.

I just saw that Doc Connor passed. He was always such a warm loving family man. Proud of his children, always had a funny story to tell. I worked with both him and his wife a Pat , while helping decorate their home and they made it a family experience as well as a joy to work with.
