WILLIAM H. GILLESPIE  
William Hamilton Gillespie departed this life on Monday, April 29, 2013 at age 50. Will was thoughtful, caring, and well-read. He was a science fiction and games buff, a man both analytical and gentle. He was a caring son, a warm brother, a devoted husband, and a loving father. Will was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on April 20, 1963. He graduated from Fairview High School in Pennsylvania in 1981 as the Valedictorian. He received his BA in mathematics and economics from Williams College in 1985, Summa Cum Laude, Salutatorian, and Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Yale University in 1990 with an M.A., M.Ph., and PhD in economics. He was employed as an economist by the Anti-Trust Division of the Justice Department, where he served for 23 years. One of the highlights of his service to his country was a term as an economist on the White House Council of Economic Advisors in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Baum Gillespie and their daughter, Anna. Other survivors include his parents, Philip G. and Carol M. Gillespie of Gainesville, VA; brothers, Philip M. Gillespie (Elizabeth) of Scarsdale, NY and James S. Gillespie(Wen-Lei), Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan; and niece Claire M. Gillespie, Scarsdale, NY. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 5 at Burke Presbyterian Church, Burke, VA, with visitation at 1 p.m. and the service at 2 p.m. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery will take place in the fall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Burke Presbyterian Church or to Johns Hopkins University, 600 N. Wolfe Street/ Blalock 536, Baltimore, MD 21287. Gifts will be earmarked for the Readership in Cardiovascular Medicine.
