William Moody Obituary

William Brooks Blaisdell "Bill" Moody, 87, retired U.S. Navy Captain and lifelong teacher, died August 11, 2025 at Georgetown University Hospital. A resident of Knollwood Retirement Community in Washington, DC, he was born in Newport, RI, and after graduating from Wesleyan University, taught French before a 30-year career as a Navy cryptologic officer. His service included tours in Alaska, Vietnam, Italy, Germany, and Washington, DC, earning the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and other decorations.

Bill married Susan B. Balch in 1966. After Sue's death in 1999, Bill married Janet
Patrick, who passed away in January 2025. Survivors include his children, Sarah of Brooklyn, NY and Nathaniel of San Carlos, CA; three grandchildren, his sister Jayne, and his brother Stan.

A memorial service will be held at Knollwood Retirement Community Chapel, 6200 Oregon Ave. NW, Washington, DC on Friday Ovotber 17, 2025 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Episcopal Church (Incline Village, NV), Sandy Spring Friends School, Wesleyan University, or a charity of your choice.
