WILLIAM SNOWDEN STABLER (68)  Radio Broadcaster  
William Snowden Stabler, 68, a well-known and beloved figure in the local news radio community, died peacefully April 7, 2012 of a stroke. Bill Stabler was born in Joplin, MO, and began working in radio in WINX, while attending Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, MD. He later worked with U.S. Armed Forces Radio in Taiwan, Voice of America, ABC, NBC, CBS, WBIG-FM, his own station WFQX-FM in Front Royal, VA, and Stabler Radio Organization. At the time of his death, he was working as a News Anchor in the News Division of Total Traffic Network. Bill joined the Rockville Kiwanis in July 1994. Bill was very active in the club; he was elected Club President in 1999-2000 and was elected Division Lieutenant Governor in 2002-2003. He also served as Interclub Chair, Newsletter Editor, Club Foundation Director, and Key Club Advisor for many years. Bill has been very involved with our youth, being Rockville's Service Leadership Program Chair and was a fixture with District Key Club, HOBY, and Key Leader programs. He was also Rockville's Webmaster and Facebook Monitor. Bill was an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling.He is survived by his significant other Elizabeth Gaffney, two children Melissa and Richard of Owings Mills, MD, and seven siblings. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to: John Gilfrith, Rockville Kiwanis Foundation, P.O. Box 1401, Rockville, MD 20849. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, at Interfaith Chapel, 3680 S. Leisure World Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD 20906. Family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m.
