Donna Mae Nuss Hoeper, 85, of Denver and formerly from Waverly died on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
Donna Mae was born on November 2, 1938, the daughter of Ernest J and Minnie (Schedtler) Nuss in rural Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized on November 13, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church Buck Creek. She attended rural and parochial school in the Sumner area. On June 1, 1952, she was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church Buck Creek. The family moved to the Fredrika area in 1954, and she graduated from Frederika High School in 1957. She married Lavern Hoeper on September 7, 1958, the couple later divorced. Donna worked on the farm for 25 years, then at B.E. Micks, C & G Office Products, and The Garden of Memories. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Waverly Health Center.
She was a current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was active in the community and church activities, including women's fellowship, choir, historian, and past chair of the church board, as well as sang in the Cedar Harmony Sweet Adelines. Donna enjoyed flower gardening, dancing, playing cards and following her grandchildren's activities.
Survivors are her three children, Jackie Paulsen of Spencer, Steve Hoeper of Columbia, Missouri and Allen (Penny) Hoeper of Waverly; five grandchildren; Lisa (Jose) Reyes, Nicole (Derek) Austin, Preston (Ciara) Paulsen, Roger Hoeper and Michael (Abby) Hoeper; seven great grandchildren, Kennedy, Lincoln and Monroe Reyes, Jethro and Scottlyn Austin, Hazel Paulsen, Olive Hoeper, and one on the way; three brothers, Elroy (Sandy) Nuss of Fairmont, Minnesota, Michael (Marcia) Nuss of Ackley and Merlin (Bonny) Nuss of Overland Park, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ken Nuss and Arlan Nuss; sister, Minerva Brown; nephew, Tim Nuss; two brothers-in-law, Larry DeBruyn and Victor Fasse and sister-in-law, Elnora Fasse.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:30 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Corey Smith presiding. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Friday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 5 to 7 p.m. and also an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
