Albert Stammler Obituary

Albert Leonhard Stammler

July 4, 1951 - June 25, 2025

Albert Leonhard Stammler, 73, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, June 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born in Linz, Austria, on July 4, 1951, to Edith (Flam) and Valentin Stammler, Al immigrated to the United States at a young age with his family. He spent his formative years in Des Moines, Iowa and St. Paul, Minn., graduating from Park High School in 1969.

From 1972 to 1974, Al was drafted and served in the United States Army. He later enjoyed a career at John Deere, retiring in 2001.

Al was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He gave freely of his time, energy, and heart, always putting others before himself. His warmth and generosity made everyone feel welcome, valued, and heard.

Though he enjoyed many hobbies and collections, Al's greatest passion was people. He cherished coffee with friends, scenic drives, and meaningful conversations. A true "man about town," Al lived unapologetically with a free spirit and fierce devotion to doing things his way.

He will be remembered for his kindness, confidence, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His absence leaves an unfillable space in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Theodor Stammler. He is survived by his sisters, Jolanda Stammler and Sonja Stammler; his sons, Anthony Stammler (Kaylee), Michael Stammler, and Steven Stammler (Michelle); and his beloved granddaughter, Sophia Stammler.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Al's memory by sharing a cup of coffee with a friend.

We were neighbors on south street, he worked with my dad at JDeeres. One day after a big storm went through he was going on his motorcycle and I asked if I could hitch a ride to check out the storm damage. He agreed and when we were cruising down 3rd street Al said , I work with that guy in that house. I said, let's stop by and say hello. Little did he know when he knocked on that back door it was my dad that answered it, his co worker also!! It was a set up, but a fun one!!
We'll miss that guy for sure

I was saddened to hear of Al's passing. I knew Al since we entered the apprenticeship program as a group. Al's integrity was solid; someone you could always count on. My sympathy goes out to his family
