WAVERLY-Michael Martin Poppe, age 63, of Waverly, Iowa, joined his friends and family at the fishing hole at the gates of Heaven on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Mike was born on July 22, 1960, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Norman and Barbara (Dieckmann) Poppe. He was raised in rural Waverly and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1979. On September 14, 1979, Mike was united in marriage to Margyne Schrage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. During his life Mike worked for Hobson Brothers in Shell Rock, Iowa, K & P Pattern in Waterloo, Iowa, and American Pattern in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Mike was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly. His greatest enjoyment in life was time spent with his grandchildren, however, he also liked fishing, woodworking, gardening, farming, and working on his kids houses.
Mike's memory is honored by: his wife Margyne Poppe of Waverly; three children, Melinda (Jeromie) Schroeder of Sumner, Iowa, Marshal Poppe of Waverly, and Mitchel (Katelyn) Poppe of Waverly; seven grandchildren Avari, Braedy, and Cahlei Schroeder and Addalyn, Emmett, Amelia, and Owen Poppe; sister, Susan (Dave) Roethler of Plainfield, Iowa; and brother, Tom Poppe of Waverly.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 9, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Mike's family for later designation and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com. 319-352-1187
