Arthur Schindler Obituary
Arthur Duane Schindler, 85, of Berne, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at 7:11 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at his residence. He was born on January 9, 1940, in Adams County to David and Irene (Affolder) Schindler.
Arthur graduated in 1958 from Geneva High School and was employed at Franklin Electric in Bluffton, where he continued working until his retirement as a tool designer. He was a conservationist who loved to fish and hunt. Arthur served his country in the United States Army from 1963-1965.
He was a dedicated member of the Berne West Missionary Church, where he served faithfully as head usher and willingly helped in any way that he could.
Survivors include four nephews, Davis (Jodi) Chaires and Brent (Jeri) Schindler, both of Monroe, Indiana; Jeffery (Stephanie) Foster of LaFontaine, Indiana; and Michael (Toni) Foster of Warsaw, Indiana. He is also survived by two nieces, Kathleen (Curt) Hullinger and Jennifer Foster, both of North Manchester, Indiana; along with six great-nieces, three great-nephews, one step great-nephew, one step great-niece, four great-great-nephews, and two great-great-nieces. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carolyn Schindler of Monroe, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Schindler and Gary Schindler, who passed away in infancy; and one sister, Doris Foster.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva, Indiana. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at West Missionary Church, with Pastor Keith Rupp officiating. There will be an hour of viewing before the service at the church starting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the MRE Cemetery in Berne. Military rites will be conducted by the US Army.
