James Davis Obituary

James (Jim/Jug) Russell Davis, 77, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home Friday, August 22, 2025. Born November 15, 1947, in Warsaw, Indiana, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Hackworth) Davis. Jim lived life to the fullest and was loved by all who encountered him. He was a graduate of Sidney High School class of 1965. He proudly served two tours (1966-1968) in Vietnam in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Jim enlisted the same day as his brother, Lowell Davis. He then found work at RR Donnelly, Zollner Piston and was also a journeyman for the Local 232 Carpenters Union. He owned The Hallway Bar and later started Jim Davis Roofing, which he owned and operated with dedication from 1985 until his retirement in 2020. Jim approached every role in life - son, brother, husband, father, and papaw - with passion and devotion. In his life he never missed a garage sale, a pool game with his sons, golf with his family and friends, sitting quietly in a deer stand, mushroom hunting in the woods or fishing with his grandkids. Jim was a mentor, friend, and the best hunting partner anyone could ask for. The woods were his sanctuary and he passed this tradition on to his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. For every trip and every story he passed on wisdom. Jim had the gift of conversation, a great sense of humor, and an endless well of love for the people around him. He will be remembered for his bravery, his gift of comedy, and his unconditional love. He is survived by his wife, Diane Davis; sons, Scott (Tara) Geist, Todd (Andrea) Davis, and Eric Meyer; daughters, Keely Davis, Wendy (Phil) Ressler, and Elizabeth (Josh) Wigent; his beloved grandchildren, Malorie Sexton, Aliace Davis, Laura Cox, Mercedes and Natilie Ressler, Abby (Milo) Burkett, Tristan Saye, Alexander, Peyton, Amelia and Joseph Ressler, Chelsey Chronister, Sydney and Nyssa Timm, Madeline Ray, Presley Meyer, Swayze, Hendrix, Grady, and Griffin Wigent; great grandchildren, Declan, Ambrose, Jadence, Zayda, Zacora, Ryli, Zack, Korbin, Mabel, and one boy on the way; siblings, Thomas Davis, Jerry Davis, Tim (Karoline) (USMC) Davis, Eugene Davis, Amanda Vuittonet; sisters-in-law, Sharon Davis, Cathy Roemke, Cheryl (Bob) Walker, and Laura (Eric) Williams. Along with his parents Jim is preceded in death by his brothers, Grover (US Army), Roy (US Army), Lowell (US Army), and Larry (USMC) Davis; sisters, Darcas Owings and Darlene Davis; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Davis, and Sue Davis; and brothers-in-law, Tony Vuittonet and Max Roemke. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at DeMoney and Grimes, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services with full military honors will be Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 am with calling one hour prior also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to Disabled American Veterans. Visit www.DeMoneyGrimes.com to send Jim's family online condolences or sign the online guest book.
