Michael Johnson Obituary

Michael Jay Johnson, 76, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Born July 15, 1949, in Fort Wayne, Indiana he was the son of the late Merle "Jake" and Gloria (Gibson) Johnson. He graduated from Bishop Luers High School with the Class of 1967. On June 21, 1969, he married Carol R. White in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mike was an Army Veteran who proudly served in the Vietnam War in 1969, 1970, and 1971. He worked for 43 years with Earth Construction Inc., retiring in 2014. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Crooked Lake Association of Whitley/Noble County. Mike had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, and traveling to the U.P. with Carol. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and friends. He found his greatest joy in being with his grandchildren. Mike is survived by his wife, Carol Johnson; son Jeffery (Kelli) Johnson, grandchildren Glorianna Johnson, Isabella Gettys, Tabitha Krider and Corinna Schoemaker; son Alan (Trecia) Johnson, granddaughter Hailie (Trey McKinley) Johnson, and great-grandsons, Bexley and Hoyt Michael; daughter Jill (Jerry Reed) Johnson, grandchildren, Alana Reed, Ronald Reed, Ryan Reed, and Olivia Reed; and many cherished friends. The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. Memorial donations may be given in memory of Mike to Crooked Lake Association or Parkview Hospice.
