Rita Morgan Obituary
Rita Jean (Kellogg) Morgan, 77, of Montpelier, Indiana, passed away at 4:51 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
She was born on November 7, 1947, in Muncie, Indiana, the only child of Orville Ernest Kellogg and Edna Lee (Norton) Kellogg. Raised on a farm, Rita loved being outdoors with her dad and the animals. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1967, where she received the "Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow" award.
Rita worked for many years as a school bus aide with LifeStream Services and with the Blackford County special needs school bus program, as well as at Vogel's Donuts. She also dedicated much of her life to her family as a housewife and mother. Rita was a devoted member of Pleasantdale Church and actively supported the church's youth program. She was an organizing member of Francois Godfroy Chapter, NSDAR, serving as chapter registrar for several years, and also helped organize Rachel Sullivan Tent No. 55, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
She had many passions, including genealogical research, flower gardening, and baking. Rita especially loved camping at Spring Mill State Park with family and friends, enjoying campfires, hayrides, wildlife, and nature. She had a deep interest in ancient and natural history and liked to visit museums, caves, and historic sites.
She was first married to Paul W. Hamilton. On August 7, 1973, she married William H. "Bill" Morgan, who also preceded her in death on April 7, 2012, along with her parents and her son, Michael Ray Hamilton.
Survivors include her children: James F. (Amy) Morgan of Hartford City, William "Bill" H. (Jenn) Morgan, Jr. of Hartford City, and Richard C. "Rick" (Margaret) Morgan of Rickman, TN. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren-Brandy Farman of Florida; Thomas Hamilton of Portland, IN; Aaron Hamilton of Tennessee; Elizabeth Hamilton of Muncie, IN; Kerra Esslinger of Tennessee; Zachary (Samantha) Morgan of Cookeville, TN; Nicholas (Ciara) Morgan of Livingston, TN; Jacob Morgan of Cookeville, TN; and Ryley (Maranda) Loughney of Rock Hill, SC. She also had two great-grandchildren, along with several adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, and again from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home in Montpelier. The DAR will honor Rita during a service that will take place on Thursday, at 6pm during the visitation. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Loft officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Montpelier.
