Joseph Rush Obituary

Joseph "Joe" F. Rush, Jr., 72, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Christine T. (Bryant) Rush for 42 years. Joseph was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph F. Rush, Sr. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia, PA, class of 1969. Joseph graduated from Community College of Philadelphia, class of 1974, with an associate's degree in Fine Arts. He served as a Field Radio Operator in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Joseph worked as a floral decorator for Shaw Florist in Philadelphia, PA. He was then employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for Philadelphia, PA and then for Hatfield, PA for a total of 29 years. After retiring in 2011, Joseph worked part-time as a parking enforcement officer for Villanova University in Villanova, PA and then as a school crossing guard for the Souderton Area School District. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Joseph was a member of the VFW in Philadelphia, PA. He loved spending time with his family and close friends, including trips to Florida, Ireland, Colorado, Tennessee, and the New Jersey Shore. Joseph also loved music, particularly the blues, and dabbled in songwriting. He played a variety of instruments, including his favorite, the guitar. Joseph was an avid Philadelphia Flyers and EAGLES fan. He also loved various television shows and movies. In his earlier years, Joseph enjoyed art and drawing, comics, and fishing. More recently, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Joseph was a hardworking, compassionate, kind-hearted man who had a great sense of humor and was quick-witted. In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by his son, Joseph F. Rush, III & wife, Melissa "Missy" of Quakertown, PA; his two daughters, Michaela J. Rush & partner, Gina Carlettini of Souderton, PA, Mary K.R. Calderin & husband, Devin of Skippack, PA; his three grandsons, Nolan M. Rush of Souderton, PA, Joseph "Joey" F. Rush, IV of Quakertown, PA, Aidan T. Rush of Quakertown, PA; and his sister, Mary Ellen DeNucci of Havertown, PA. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. A Marine Vietnam Veteran has passed away today. Joe, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow Vietnam Veteran. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran.
