Russell Veeder Obituary
Russell Thomas Veeder,79 years old passed away at his home in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania on the evening of May 23rd 2025. He was born in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England. He attended Central Regional High School and graduated from the Pennington School. He served in the Navy on the USS Howard Gilmore. When discharged he married Georgette Hernandez in 1970. He studied aeronautical engineering and computer technology at the Florida Institute of Technology and Widener University. Russ went on to study sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He graduated with honors, receiving the J. Henry Scheidt Memorial Scholarship. Attending PAFA was one of his most enjoyable and influential experiences. He exhibited his sculptures in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His work is in private collections and in the permanent collection of Gibbs Art Gallery in Charleston. In Philadelphia, Russ co-founded an architectural art company making ornaments for new buildings and historical restorations. He mastered the art of casting and making rubber molds. Notable projects are the Widener building in Philadelphia and the Delaware Performing Arts Center.
Russ lived at the Jersey shore, in Center City Philadelphia and finally settled on a small farm in Berks county. Having renovated his home and studio in Philadelphia he embarked on the challenge of renovating a historical farmhouse. He admired and respected traditional crafts especially blacksmithing and woodworking. He enjoyed restoring and collecting antiques. It was in the old smoke house on the farm where Russ made his forged metal sculptures. Russ loved living in the country, farming, gardening and having animals. Walking through the woods, pasture and along the stream inspired his imagination. He had an acute sense of design. Russ saw beauty in all things natural.
Russ was known for his witty sense of humor. He could always get a smile or smirk from anyone he met. Russ had a gentle manner and was kind person a nice guy.
Russ is predeceased by his mother Lily Turner and his father Robert Bruce Veeder. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Georgette, cousins Stuart Veeder and his wife Nancy, Vicki Favorito and her husband Tony, Cathy Bailey and her husband Paul, Susan Bailey, Jim Veeder, Billy Martin and his wife Julia, Mark Martin, step sister Julie Holt and husband Ron, and step brothers Jan Turner and Stephen Turner.
