David G. Munson

David G. Munson, 95, of Suffield, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on February 22, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1930, in Pittsfield, MA, to Alfred and Inez (Whitcomb) Munson. He grew up in Hinsdale, MA and graduated from Pittsfield High School, class of 1949. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1949 until 1953 and in the Coast Guard from 1977 until 1985. He married the love of his life, June Oles, on August 4, 1956, and spent their life in Enfield before moving to Suffield in 2019. David worked as an aerospace mechanic at Kaman Aerospace and then as a diesel mechanic for Stanadyne, where he retired in 1998. He had a true love for airplanes, whether it was at airshows, airports, or the model-size planes that he built and collected. He found enjoyment playing golf, working in the yard, and traveling, whether it was faraway places like Alaska and Bermuda or just walking the mall with June and their friends. He was a faithful communicant of Hazardville United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, June Munson of Suffield, CT; their daughter, Julie Fleck and her husband Louis of Enfield, CT; his grandsons; Paul Fleck and his wife Jenn of New Jersey, and Ken Fleck and his wife Khae of California; his great-grandchildren; Brody, Harper, Brynn, and Emerson Fleck; and his nephews; Peter Munson of Illinois and Todd Munson of Virginia. He is predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Inez Munson, and his brother, Bruce Munson, and his wife Barbara. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the caring staff at Suffield by the River and the Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Connecticut, especially Eileen, Marie, and Sandy, for their hospice care services. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Hazardville United Methodist Church, 330 Hazard Avenue, Enfield, CT. Burial with full military honors will take place at Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield, CT.
