David Schoen Obituary
David M. Schoen, 71, beloved husband of the late Melinda Joy Schoen, of Wallingford, passed away on Monday, January 6th, 2025 at Connecticut Hospice of Branford. He was born in New Haven on March 16th, 1953, the son of the late Leonard Schoen and Maureen Joos.
David is survived by his daughter Jessica Schoen and partner Lewis Dickerson, daughter Maureen and son-in-law Joel Krajeski, his son Victor and daughter-in-law Claudia Sperrazza and daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Ryan Gawel as well as his cherished grandchildren, Griffon Krajeski, Sydney Dickerson, Natalie Dickerson, Paul Sperrazza, Bella Sperrazza, Joseph Sperrazza, Lee Gawel, Emily Gawel, Ryan Gawel, and Cait Gawel. He is survived by his siblings Kathy and (Ronald) McGlinchey, Pamela Parker, Patricia and (Kenneth) Wotton, Kevin and (Cheryl) Schoen, Tracy and (Derek) Wilbur plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and beloved friends.
David was a jack of all trades, working a variety of jobs including Times Wire, Cooper Instruments, Hungerford's and building maintenance. He enjoyed working with his hands, particularly wood working, and repairing equipment for his various jobs. David was notorious for being able to fix anything and spent many hours on house projects from painting to plumbing to carpentry. He built book cases, vanities, rocking horses and more for his family to enjoy.
David was an avid fisherman and gardener. He deeply enjoyed fishing on charted boats in the Atlantic, particularly the Black Hawk in Niantic, CT. As a younger man, he was a member of tropical fish clubs and enjoyed breeding and showing a variety of tropical fish at local club meetings and conventions. With Melinda, he created an oasis of a yard with beautiful flower beds, vegetables gardens and a gorgeous fish pond with a pergola and deck. He spent many hours tending to and enjoying his gardens. David will always be remembered for how much he loved his family through all the ups and downs of life. He loved to gush over the accomplishments (big and small) of his wife, children and grandchildren to everyone he knew. We'll remember how he loved to re- tell favorite stories or crack corny dad jokes. We will miss David every day and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
David's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 17th from 9:30 am to 11am at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 11 am. Interment at In Memoriam Cemetery will be held immediately following the memorial service.
