Loving Father and Pop Pop
Mr. Joseph A. Diogostine Jr., formerly of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown after a brief Illness.
Joseph was born in Waterbury on January 16, 1941. He was the oldest son of the late Joseph and Philomena (Pomponio) Diogostine Sr. Joseph graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School Class of 1958. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, 5th Battalion, 77th Artillery, stationed in West Germany. Joseph was a Tool Maker by trade and worked at Devon Precision Industries for 24 years until his retirement in 2007. He was previously the owner and operator of Standard Precision Inc.
Joseph was an avid outdoorsman and longtime member of the Woodbury & Southbury Rod and Gun Club where he held the past office of Membership Chairman. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in his garden and tending his yard. He especially enjoyed the beach, his yearly family vacation to Ogunquit, Maine and treating his family to their annual lobster dinner. Joseph was a loving and caring father, often stopping by with his cooler full of goodies including imported cheese, fresh picked fruit, and Italian bread, always sharing with those he loved. He was happiest with his family, enjoying the simple things, good food, drink, and conversation. He proudly held the title of Pop Pop for his granddaughters whom he adored.
Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph Diogostine III and his wife, Desiree, and his granddaughters, Tessa and Dia, of Durham. He also leaves behind his sisters, Lucille French of Katy, Texas and Patricia McNerney and her husband Kevin of Waterbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah Diogostine and his brother Michael Diogostine.
Joseph's Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, All Saints Parish, 309 S. Main St., Waterbury, CT 06706. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours.
