Joyce Moreau Obituary
Joyce B. (Wilson) Moreau, 89 of Plainville, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday August 8, 2025. Her presence was a light in every room, and her smile always present, making people feel instantly welcome and special.
Born on January 7, 1936, she was one of two daughters to the late Henry and Hazel (Hodges) Wilson. A longtime resident of Meriden and later Bristol, Joyce raised her family alongside her first husband, Harold Abele, until his passing in 1971. Shortly after, love found her once again, and she spent the next 53 beautiful years married to Eddie Moreau. Together, they built a life in Plainville, transforming their home into the ultimate gathering place for holidays, special occasions, and any excuse to bring loved ones together. If you knew Joyce, you knew where to be when the food was served-her kitchen was always filled with delicious dishes, laughter, and open arms. Her meticulous organization ensured that every family gathering was well documented, with photo albums lovingly compiled almost immediately after an event; a living timeline of treasured moments.
Joyce built a long and dedicated career with the State of Connecticut's Department of Rehabilitation, where her commitment to helping others reflected her generous spirit. She later brought that same dedication to her role as an administrator at Hygrade Tool, where she worked until her retirement.
Joyce and Eddie also shared their passion for food and community through their beloved E and J Restaurant in Southington. Their mutual love of cooking and connecting with people made the restaurant a true extension of their home-a place where everyone felt like family. They loved a good New England day trip-whether to Maine, Vermont, or a scenic drive to Mohegan Sun, if there was good food to be found, they'd be there with a joyful hearts and eager appetites. Joyce will be remembered most for her kindness, her ability to make anyone feel seen and loved, and the smiles she brought into every space she entered.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Abele, Linda Shine and her children Danny and Kelsey, and Nancy Gyllenhammer and her children, Derek (Katie), Brittany and Rachel; her daughter-in-law Christine Moreau; her son Robert Moreau and his wife Debra; her sister Barbara Bauer; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Harold and Eddie, she was predeceased by her granddaughter Molly Shine, and most recently, by her son Raymond Moreau.
In lieu of flowers, Joyce may be remembered with contributions to the Plainville Fire Company Memorial Scholarship Fund, 77 W. Main St, Plainville, CT 06062.
Honoring Joyce's wishes, her family will celebrate her life with private funeral services. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their gratitude to the Moreau family for their trust. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com.
