Kenneth Sullivan Obituary

Kenneth K. Sullivan, Sr., 83, of Colchester, CT, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of April 23, 2025, with family by his side. Born on August 30, 1941, in Norwich, CT, Kenneth was the eldest child of his parents, the late John and Evelyn Sullivan. In 1977, Ken married Eileen (McNamara) Sullivan and the two settled in Colchester where they raised their family and lived together for 45 years until his death. Ken spent the last 35 years of his working life with Amtrak laboring with the dedication and incredibly strong work ethic that defined his entire career. When he finally retired in 2012, he was able to get back to his first love, nature. Aside from his family, Ken's greatest joy was being outside. From a young age he had a passion for trapping, hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping, and gardening. He delighted in sharing his hobbies with his children and he spent time traveling around the country with them. They would explore new places and visit campgrounds where they could put a canoe in the water, catch some fish, and cook it on the fire. Ken's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and quiet strength. He was a unique person with unyielding morals, a faithful and committed husband and father, and a good and honest man. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those who were blessed to know him. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn (Phelan) and John Sullivan, sibling Tim Sullivan, and son, Kenneth K. Sullivan, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eileen Sullivan; their daughters, Kathy (Sullivan) Roberts, Nancy (Sullivan) Ball, Erin Sullivan and husband John, Colleen (Sullivan) Diaz and husband Daniel; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, CT 06415. A chapel service will follow on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with burial to follow in the New St. Andrew Cemetery in Colchester. Eileen and family ,

I knew Ken was having health issues, but I was still shocked and saddened to hear that Ken had passed on........

Sometimes, we know our friends need to leave us, but we still want to keep them with us....One of our human frailities, I guess............

May GOD bless Ken !........He is now healthy and whole, again ....

I got to know Ken as the husband of one of my classmates, and I liked him.

Ken and I would meet, and share a Class Breakfast once a month, with other classmates, and talk Hot Peppers and politics .............

I will miss seeing Ken, and pray that his wife and family can find the strength to move on, past this sad event.

Ken's memories will stay with us all.................
