Richard Fitch Obituary

Richard "Rick" Fitch, 77, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Rick was born on August 20, 1947, in Norwalk, Connecticut, to Eva and Milton Fitch Jr. Shortly after his birth, the family moved from New Canaan, CT, to Huntington, NY, where Rick later graduated from Huntington High School. Rick proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Saratoga as an Aviation Electronics Technician during the Six-Day War and the Vietnam War. Upon returning to his new home in Simsbury, Connecticut, he met the love of his life, Melinda "Mindy" Finney, on a blind date arranged by Mindy's twin sister, Maureen. Rick channeled his passion for connecting with others into a successful career in various service and sales roles. This included positions at GE, JCPenney, Phillips, Freightliner, and TransAxle. Whether through his work, a casual conversation, or a story, his infectious personality and genuine interest in others made every interaction feel meaningful. Known for his quick wit, animated facial expressions, jokes, and impressive magic tricks, Rick had a talent for brightening any room-especially when it came to his grandchildren, who adored him. The family even coined the term "Fitch Fix It," as Rick could troubleshoot and repair any problem thrown his way. Photography was one of Rick's greatest passions. He loved exploring Connecticut and Nantucket with his camera, often accompanied by friends or his wife. He rarely missed a family event without snapping a few group shots, but it was his ability to capture quiet, everyday joy that made his photos so special. Thanks to Rick, the family has a treasure trove of memories preserved through his lens. Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Melinda "Mindy" Fitch; his sons, Matthew (Kristin) and Ryan (Kiley); his grandchildren, Dylan, Emma, Paxton, and Phoebe; his brother Lowell (Lisa); his sister Sandra (Johnny); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother David and sister-in-law Linda Fitch. The family will be holding a private service and deeply appreciates the understanding and support of friends and loved ones during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Rick's memory.
