Robert "Bob" Redding (NHFD, ret.) 93 of East Haven passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025 at home surrounded by his wife and family. He was born November 28, 1931 in New Haven to James and Emily (Williams) Redding. Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Adrienne (Bogart) Redding and their five children; Blase Pierce (Edward) of Milford, Hollis Redding of Meriden, Heather Redding of East Haven, Darryl Redding (Denise) of East Haven and Dana Linkel (Guy) of New Sharon, ME. Robert is also survived by his four grandchildren he adored; Mackenzie, Taylor, Stephanie and Dylan and one great granddaughter, Nova. He also leaves behind numerous nieces/nephews and two special friends and colleagues; Bruce Galaski and Bill Hoffman.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and brothers; James, William, John and Edward Redding.
To know Robert was to know a true gentleman. He was known for his quiet strength, his steady kindness and his unwavering sense of decency. Whether during his 4 years with the US Navy, responding to emergencies as part of the New Haven Fire Department for 30 years, lending a helping hand through his work at Grand Light and Electrical Wholesalers, or simply being present for those he loved, Robert earned the respect and admiration of everyone he met.
Throughout his life, countless friends, coworkers and neighbors would say "What a great guy your dad is!" Those words were echoed time and time again, and they weren't just casual compliments- they were heartfelt acknowledgements of the character Robert lived by every day. His humility, integrity, and deep sense of responsibility made him not just well liked but deeply cherished.
Everywhere he went, Robert would collect soda tabs to donate to The Ronald McDonald House. All of his kids follow his example, saving tabs from soda, soup and pet food cans, donating thousands every year which are recycled for cash used to support families staying at RMH while their children receive medical treatment. Robert was very dedicated to this charity.
Above all else, Robert treasured his family. His legacy is one of love, dignity, and strength- a class act in every sense. His presence will be missed beyond measure, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the values he instilled, and the love he gave so freely.
Family will receive friends on Friday July 11, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday July 12 at 10 AM AM in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal/Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven CT.
