Samuel Williams Obituary

Samuel Williams Jr., 74, of Hartford, beloved husband to his wife Pamela (Pam), passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Sam was born in Albany, GA to the late Samuel Sr., and Thelma Williams. He moved to Hartford, CT when he was 10 years old. He graduated from Weaver High School, Class of 1968. Following high school Sam often expressed his desire to protect and serve within his community. He proudly dedicated himself to a well-established career as a Hospital Security Officer for many years. He concluded his work with Securitas Security Services at Trinity Health Care (Formally known as St. Francis Hospital). Sam had an electric personality, a winning smile and a laugh that made you feel embraced in his presence. Sam met the love of his life, Pam, as a teenager. They dated and eventually married in 1990, sharing over 50 years of endearment. They raised a family together and were often known as one entity, "Sam and Pam". Sam was a provider, a dedicated son-in-law, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. Sam was no stranger to lending a helping hand to anyone, in any capacity. If you ever needed him for anything he was guaranteed to show up for you no matter what he had going on himself. Aside from his dedication to his family and career, what he was also well known for were his continuous selections of home improvement projects. He was a jack of all trades. On any given day you could expect to find him either helping someone else, working on a project of his own to upgrade their home, or you could go visit "Sam and Pam" and the house inside or out could potentially be painted a totally different color than it was the day before. Sam was an avid music enthusiast for old school tunes and when he pulled out his white dress shoes it often led to a detailed melodic narrative about a band or two that he admired or had frequented over the years. Not only did he love to listen to music, but he respectfully moved to the beat of his own drum and did things his own way. For years he took control of i-95s during the family trips to North Carolina, no matter how many tickets he got. We all knew if you were not riding in his car, there was a strong possibility that you were going to have a hard time keeping up and he was not stopping. Stopping was not his nature. During his journey he did not stop embracing his interests and following his calling for what he loved. He chose with dignity to continue to work to provide for his wife and family. He continued to visit and care for his siblings, and he continued to express positivity, grace, and love daily. Therefore, we too will continue. We will continue to cherish the memories of how Sam was always delighted to accept any opportunity to dress up sharp as a tack in casual gear or a stylish pant suit, then take a drive in his immaculate Blue Chrysler 300 that he always made sure was sparkling and ready for the road (with the Sam and Pam license plate), his eloquent speech and extensive vocabulary as he often made a simple conversation feel very important, his enthusiasm to tell a joke or re-enact a story that was sure to end in amusement because he was extremely comical, and his commitment to playing his daily numbers for pleasure and entertainment. Sam will be remembered always by his wife, Pamela Williams; his children, Lashelle Williams, and Samuel Williams III, both of Hartford, and David Williams Sr., of Windsor; his grandchildren, Kejuan, Tanysha, Shenae, David Jr., Kareem, Khaliq, and a great grandson, Ezreign; his siblings, Elisha Williams, Thelma Allen, and Roger Williams, all of Hartford; his Mother in-law Cora M. Shipman, loving in-laws, and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Baby Boy, Holloway, and Frank Williams; his sisters, Carolynn, and Katherine Williams; and a nephew, Anthony Len Allen. The family extends gratitude to Securitas Security Services for their unwavering support, and to Dr. Emily F. Collier and team, of Trinity Health of New England for their care and support for Sam and our family. In lieu of flowers the family asks kindly for donations to be made to the Cancer Society in honor of Samuel Williams Jr. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Samuel, please visit our floral store.

It was a pleasure to be a colleague of Sam over the last decade at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center (run by Trinity Health). A man of wit, quiet dignity, grace and courage in the face of mounting adversity his commitment to his profession as well as those he cherished. It made you proud to have known someone with easygoing equanimity like Sam always willing to put others before himself. This gentleman left an impression on so many like me who felt his true presence even when performing tasks like flag duty at 114 Woodland Street.
