Anna Chapman Obituary

Anna Chapman, 97, of Quincy, passed away at 8:50 am Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Sunset Home in Quincy, IL. Anna was born March 9, 1928, in Monmouth, IL to Jesse and Lucille (Parsons) Allen. Her youth was filled with the simple pleasures of small-town life, and it was at Scotties Roller Skating Rink where she met the love of her life, Russell "Chappie" Chapman. Their love story was one for the ages, and they got married on November 3, 1946, in Quincy, IL. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter until Russell's passing on June 3, 2005. The joy of Anna's life was her family. She is survived by her loving children, Kathy Chapman of Quincy and Carolyn Powers (Ron) of Palatine, IL. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren, Gary M. Chapman, Brenda Wheeler, Veronica Hartke, Kristina Powers, and Kimberly Dobervich, and her adored ten great-grandchildren. Anna is also survived by her brothers, Jim Allen (Ruth) and Bill Allen (Becky), and her sister, Ethel Willingham. Anna was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Carroll Allen; two sisters, Dorcas Allen King and Virginia Kaelber; and two sons, Michael Allen Chapman and Gary Russell Chapman, and a great-granddaughter, Brielle Dobervich. While Anna's family was the centerpiece of her life, she also dedicated 23 years of hard work as a laborer at Tuscarora Plastics. Beyond her work, Anna's interests painted the picture of a woman who embraced life with enthusiasm. She was skilled in needlepoint, creating beautiful scarves and pillowcases that were treasured by those who received them. Anna's feet tapped to the rhythm of square dancing and Bluegrass, and her competitive spirit shone through in spirited games of bingo and cheering on contestants in her favorite gameshows. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, camping, and fishing. Anna's adventurous side was evident in her travels, from the bright lights of Las Vegas to the majestic Rocky Mountains of Colorado, which she explored on a memorable bus trip with her daughters. Anna Chapman's life was a journey of love, family, and joy. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew her. Friends and Family are invited to a visitation that will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.
