Other survivors include his nine children, Billy Barker, Todd Barker, Tracey Owen, Tonna Moushey (Bob Venker), Danny Alderton (Cindy), Randy Alderton (Lynn), Linda Edwards (Tom), Tina Ballinger, and Linette Richards (Jerry); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Red's life was marked by his dedication to his country and community. After graduating from Durham High School in 1955, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. His work ethic shone through in his long-standing career in the mail room at QMG. Beyond his professional life, Red was a man of many interests. He found solace in the great outdoors, often retreating to his favorite fishing spot at Goose Lake. Camping was another joy, with Twin Oaks campground being a place of many happy memories. Red was an avid mushroom hunter and enjoyed hunting squirrels and rabbits with his wife. His Sunday drives were a cherished tradition, providing him with moments of reflection and relaxation. Red's enthusiasm for steam tractors was evident to all who knew him, and he relished every chance to attend the Midwest Old Threshers events. A loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, he followed their games with passion and excitement. His love for reading the newspaper, watching westerns, and simply enjoying the company of his loved ones filled his days with contentment. His stories, wisdom, and the memories shared will continue to inspire and comfort his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. I first met Darrell at Merchants Wholesale, where both of us were employed for quite a few years.
At the beginning he was a route driver and delivered to many convenience stores. I was the person who prepared the paperwork for the drivers.
Darrell was quite a man, dedicated to his job there and later to Amcon, the company that bought out Merchants. I knew him for at least 13 years.
I frequently saw him at QMG, delivering the mail to the floors and on occasion, shared the elevator with him. He is a man I will never forget!!
Linette and family, my deepest condolences are sent to you. Praying, God gives you peace at this difficult time of loss.
Your friend,
Janet DeJaynes
