Elizabeth Bates Obituary

GROVELAND - Elizabeth Bates, beloved wife, mother, nana, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024 at Beth Israel Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and pure kindness. She spent her final weeks surrounded by her children and dedicated husband of 40 years. Born on May 25, 1965, in the Bronx, NY, Elizabeth's life was not an easy one. Raised in foster care, she experienced hardship from an early age, but she met every challenge with unshakable resilience, determination, and an infectious spirit that never dimmed. She lived for her family-her greatest joy and her most cherished accomplishment. Her husband was her rock. Whether he was cooking her delicious meals to come home to or coming to her rescue while stranded on the side of the road, he was always there for her no matter the situation. Elizabeth enjoyed vacationing in Daytona Beach and up north at camp, playing games, and taking her grandchildren bowling or to the arcades. She was an avid Patriots fan and could often be found yelling at the television during games. She found peace and happiness by the ocean, and the beach became a place where her spirit truly thrived. Whether in the sand or under the sun, the beach was where she found solace and joy, a reminder of the simple beauties of life. In her quiet moments, she could often be found reading, a passion that helped her find comfort and joy. A hard worker at heart, Elizabeth dedicated herself to everything she did, always striving to do her best. She was most recently employed as the Deli Assistant Manager at Market Basket in Haverhill. She had an abundance of love to share, always willing to help others and give back to those in need. Her generous heart extended beyond her family and friends, touching everyone she encountered with kindness, compassion, and a desire to make the world a better place. She was everyone's biggest cheerleader, always encouraging others and lifting them up without judgment, and she had a smile that could light up any room. Elizabeth's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and selflessness. Her spirit lives on in every smile, in every act of kindness, and in the love she shared so freely. Elizabeth leaves behind her loving husband, Aubrey Bates of Groveland, MA, her four children, Matthew Bates and his wife (Elizabeth's best friend) Leah of Groveland, MA, Melissa O'Sullivan and her husband John of Gorham, NH, Heather Bates of Amesbury, MA, AJ Bates of Haverhill, MA, her five treasured grandchildren Kori, Logan, Jacob, Zachary, and Ryan, as well as her sister Robin Finelli and her husband Tony of Bronx, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, their families, and countless friends. Elizabeth, you were loved with every ounce of our being, and you will forever be in our hearts. Rest in peace, knowing that your love and light will never fade. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
