Gilbert Shepherd Obituary

Gilbert D. Shepherd, 81, of 1614 Sycamore, died May 25, 2017, at Sunset home.

He was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Bowling Green, Mo., a son of Willard and Katherin (Florence) Shepherd. Gilbert married Shirley Roberts Payne on Oct. 19, 1988, in Quincy. She survives.

Gilbert was a supervisor for John Deere. He retired from John Deere and began cooking barbecue for Hy-Vee, Shottenkirk Toyota and the Germanfest.

He loved fishing and preaching the Good News.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Terry Shepherd of Bowling Green; four daughters, Verna Laboy (Gil) of Columbia, Mo., Whitney Jensen (Chris) of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Ashley Shepherd of Galesburg and Indea Shepherd of Quincy; four stepchildren, Rhonda Hogan, Aaron Payne, Thomas Payne and Michael Payne; four brothers, Milford Shepherd of Columbia, Mo., Will (Mary) Shepherd of Columbia, Mark (Sharon) Shepherd of Columbia and Greg Shepherd of Fulton, Mo.; two sisters, Pamala (Larry) Johnson of California and Diane Moffett of Columbia, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; an aunt, Ruth Bordnes of Bowling Green; and many nieces and nephews.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Delain Shepherd; and two brothers, Melvin and Gordon Shepherd.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

VISITATION: 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

MEMORIALS: Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
