Juanita Boren Obituary

PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Juanita Lucille "Skeet" McCann Boren, 82, of Pittsfield, formerly of Nebo, died late Thursday night (Feb. 21, 2008) in the Pittsfield Manor. She was born July 29, 1925, in Hartford, to William C. and Bessie N. Rhodes McCann. She graduated from Nebo High School in 1943. She married Bruce B. Boren of Nebo in Franklin, Ind., on Aug. 19, 1944, and they became the parents of three sons, Michael Bruce, Phillip Mark and William Thomas. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked part-time in the Boren and Son grocery and dry goods stores for many years, until retiring in 1992. She loved taking care of her home and spending time with family and friends. She was a faithful member of the Nebo Church of Christ for many years, and taught children in Sunday school. Skeet loved to sing and enjoyed making people laugh. Her survivors include her husband of 63 years; her sons, Michael (wife, Julie) of Pittsfield, Mark of Nebo, and Bill (wife, Mona) of Quincy; a brother, Basil McCann, and a sister, Maurine Boren, both of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Jennifer (husband, Travis) Miller, Justin Boren, Angela Boren, Zachary Boren, Braxton Boren and Spencer Boren, and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leonard, Berdell, and Bill McCann, and by a sister, Imogene Laux. FUNERAL SERVICES: 3 p.m. Sunday in the Nebo Church of Christ by Brother Wilson Ramsey. Burial will be in Greenpond Cemetery, south of Milton. A meal will be served following the internment at the Crossroads Center in Pittsfield. VISITATION: 1:30 p.m. until the time of services Sunday in the church. MEMORIALS: Nebo Church of Christ, Pittsfield Manor Activity Fund, or the Alzheimer's Association. ARRANGEMENTS: Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.
