Ronald E. Pruitt, age 89, of Quincy, died Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:30 pm in Quincy.
Ron was born May 28, 1935, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Forrest Willard and Gladys Louise White Pruitt. He married his high school "sweety" Barbara Pearl Collingwood on December 11, 1954, in Griffith, Indiana. She preceded him in death in 2020.
He was a graduate of Hammond High School where he was Senior Class President and lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Purdue University NW Campus. After getting married, the Pruitts moved to Quincy. He started All Home Improvements Company with his father in 1954, and in 1963 he and his father purchased Pruitt Lincoln Mercury. In addition to Quincy, he later purchased the Chevrolet dealership in Salisbury, MO in 1968, the Ford-Mercury-Lincoln dealership in Independence, KS in 1971, the Pontiac dealership in Quincy in 1976 and the Ford dealership in Harrisburg, PA in 1979. In 1982 he opened the Pontiac-Olds-Buick-Cadillac- GMC dealership in Kirksville, MO. He retired in 1994. Ron bought West Quincy Auto Auction in 1996 and retired again in 2001. He greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, golf, Gin Rummy, Poker, and Euchre. He was a past member of Spring Lake Country Club, Quincy Country Club, Cedar Crest Country Club and Westview Golf Course.
Survivors include: three daughters, Jacquelyn Pruitt Kitzmiller of Quincy, IL, Jody Kay Henke of Nixa, MO, and Janine Louise Hawkins of Montgomery, TX; 4 grandchildren, ElizaNbeth Pruitt, James Rowe, Sheila Bowser, and Timothy Pruitt; four great grandchildren, Alecia and Jackson Bowser, Ava Rowe, and Emmett Eugene Pruitt; and a brother, Ric (Dana) Pruitt.
In addition to his wife, Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Eugene Pruitt; a great granddaughter, Mackenzie Bowser; and a brother, Marvin Pruitt.
Services: A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 23, 2024, in Greenmount Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
