Daniel Hinkley Obituary

Daniel Carey Hinkley Jr. of Treasure Island Oquossoc, Maine and formerly of Georgia, Medway and Medfield, passed away at the Thomas Upham House of Medfield on January 14, 2017 at the age of 86. Daniel was husband to June C. (Crowell) Hinkley for 66 years and son of the late Daniel C. Hinkley and Beatrice (O Day) Hinkley. He was the father of 3 sons: D. Michael Hinkley and his wife Anna of Hawaii, Bruce G. Hinkley and his wife Christi of Georgia, and Brian E. Hinkley and his wife Janie of Virginia. Daniel had 4 siblings: June Kelly of Medfield, Anne Morgan of Medfield, Edward Hinkley of Medfield and the late Beatrice (Reed) Hinkley. He also had 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Very active in the community, Daniel was a family man, a sportsman, and a patriot. He graduated from the Medfield Public School system with the class of 1948, then attended Boston University. From 1951 until 1954 he distinguished himself with service to his country in the United States Marine Corp., and remained active in supporting the military throughout his life. He had a busy career working for several companies such as Bendix Automotive where he was awarded Salesman of the year in 1968, Bardahl Oil, and Foam Industries from which he retired in 1985. In 1964 he received the Distinguished Salesman Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Greater Boston. Daniel enjoyed golf and tennis and was an avid hunter and fisher. He also loved time with his family, his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, he kept busy in community organizations: St. Josephs Mens Club of Medway, Knights of Columbus, and he served as an Usher at Our Lady of the Lakes Church of Rangeley during his time in Maine. He also was a member for over 60 years, and past Commander of the Medfield American Legion, Beckwith Post 110. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Dan at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring St. Medfield, MA. 02052, at 10:00 oclock in the morning on Friday, January 20, 2017, followed by Military Honors. So sorry for your loss Junie. I don't know if you remember our family we lived in Medfield in the 50's and moved in 60. My dad's name was Ed Skeans and we lived on Greene street across from Bullard's market/next to the Ripleys. May you live on the love he gave to your family and hold him in your heart. Always talk of memories. Once again sorry for your loss. LINDA SKEANS JONES &FAMILY

I am saddened to read this. Mr. Hinkley was a welcomed positive contributor to me and many others while growing up. The early Saturday morning hockey that he organized was a favorite of mine. Mike, Bruce and Brian you are positive proof of his strong character and influence. I am sure he was very proud of the three of you. A great man, he will be missed.

Great guy. Great family. Always with his boys and their friends. I remember the Bardahl station wagon in the driveway on Holliston Street and skating/playing hockey with us in the pond in back woods... and that was over 50 years ago. Thanks Mr Hinkley.
