Edward Curran Obituary

Edward A. Curran, 80, of Cohasset, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, at home, embraced by the love and grace of his wife, Elaine M. (Teagle) Curran, after a brief but resolute battle with cancer. Ed departed this world overwhelmingly proud of his family, especially Elaine, whose strength left Ed in awe every day of their sixty years together. Born on November 19, 1940, a son of the late Anthony G. and Vesta (Mongeau) Curran, he was raised in a devout Catholic household in Dorchester, as the younger brother to five sisters. Ed grew up knowing the true power of family. After graduating from Christopher Columbus High School, he followed this commitment to family and belief in a greater cause to the United States Marine Corps, where on the Potomac River, he first fell in love with sailing. From Quantico, VA to Massachusetts, Ed dedicated years to his craft as an electrician, welcoming the demand of the hands-on work and beyond honored to build his career with IBEW Local 103; and went on to retire as a master electrician at The Boston Globe. Despite his years serving his country and the many buildings he wired, Ed's true pride and joy lie in the five rowdy boys he watched mature into men. Ed, never a man of many words, refused to set his final sail without expressing his immense gratitude for the dignified men his five sons grew to be and the amazing women and grandchildren they filled Ed and Elaines home with. No matter where, when, or with whom, Ed did everything with the purest of all intentions: simply because he loved doing it. Weeknight hockey games until the age of 78, Caribbean adventures with friends, Sunday sails on the Cottontail with his grandkids, traditional corned beef and the Celtic Women on St. Patricks Day - Ed cherished every free moment he had to enjoy his greatest passions with the people he loved the most. Ed will be greatly missed and will always be treasured as a devoted husband, providing father, adoring grandfather, amazing brother, loyal friend, stoic skipper, and one heck of a skater by all. In addition to his beloved wife, Elaine, he is survived by his five devoted sons, Sean Curran and his wife Maura of Scituate, Timothy Curran and his wife Paula of Cohasset, Daniel Curran and his wife Stephanie of Pembroke, Brian Curran and his wife Kristin of Cohasset, and Andrew Curran and his partner Fawn Stevenson of Scituate. He is also survived by his 10 cherished grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Kathleen "Kathy" Gober and her husband Bob of Derry, NH and was the brother of the late Madelyn Hines, Eleanor "Ann" Murray, Margaret "Peggy" Thornton, and Rita Brace. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Ed on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:30 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 2 Summer Street, Cohasset. Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend. Interment with United States Marine Corps honors will follow in Beechwood Cemetery, Cohasset. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 4-7 pm in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer Street, Cohasset. I am very sorry to learn of Ed's passing. Our connection was Dorchester and hockey. I remembered him playing for Christopher Columbus HS in the Met League on Friday nights in the Boston Arena. We later played in pick-up hours at different rinks.
The next and final stop for me with Ed was playing on the Warriors on Monday Nights in Cohasset at the Winter Gardens and later in Hingham at Pilgrim Arena.
Ed was known for being a strong skater. Ed was also an excellent hockey player.
Most of all Ed's devotion to his family and friends impacted all of us ,we were the lucky ones!

Ed Curran was a Prince among men. He was always courteous and kind, a true gentleman. Ed was a great father and his sons are an example of Ed's goodness and generosity. He and I became friends since our boats were moored in the creek near each other. And Ed had a passion for sailing which I appreciated. I recall seeing him prepping his boat to weather a September hurricane. I was doing the same. Others were pulling their boats out, but Ed and I decided let's sail until November... this storm will just blow by. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and a great perspective on life... I'd see him skating on Lilly Pond. Once again. most guys our ages were watching football in December and January, but not Ed....RIP Ed, you were much appreciated by all that knew you. Jack

I am so very sorry for your loss, and I hope the love of friends and family will be ever present during this time of grief. I remember fondly trying to go trolling/fishing from the sailboat near Minot Light with Brian and his Dad. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
