Jean Donahue Obituary

Jean F. Donahue, of Hingham, died January 19, 2017. The beloved wife of 57 years to William G. Donahue of Hingham, who predeceased her in December 2015, she was the cherished mother of William T. Donahue (Brenda) of Greenport, N.Y., Catherine E. Trueman (Wes Richardson) of Rockland, Maine, Brian P. Donahue (Kristin) of Carver, Sean M. Donahue (Victoria) of Rockland and the late Mary Anne Donahue and Karen M. Willms (Gary). Jean "Grammy Pie" is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean grew up in Cohasset, where she was the valedictorian of Cohasset High School, class of 1957. She was the first AFS student selected from Cohasset to represent her town in post WWII Germany. She lived in Cohasset until marrying Bill and settling down in Hingham where she would start and raise a large, loving family. After raising her children, Jean restarted her professional career and worked at South Shore Hospital for over 24 years as the administrative assistant for the purchasing department. Jean relished time with her expansive family, often expressing amazement at how such a large group could grow from the love of just two people. Jean and Bill loved to travel the islands together and even most recently taking a cruise through Germany, where they both had spent time in their youth. Jean loved spending her free time reading, gardening and enjoying the outdoors. When life handed her the greatest challenges Jean always rose to the occasion and carried on for the sake of her family. In short, she was simply a tireless matriarch. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Saturday 4-6 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. A brief service will be celebrated on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, Hingham. See www.Keohane.com or call 1-800-Keohane for directions and online condolences.

I am so sorry that I just learned of Jean's passing. One of the lunch bunch at
South Shore Hospital. We shared many of life's ups/downs but Jean was always positive. Wish I was at the service to share some wonderful memories. My prayers and thoughts to all in the coming days.

So sorry to hear of Jean's passing. We had lunch together with other friends many times at SSH. She taught me that apples were sweeter the older they get. I tested that theory and she was right. Jean was a vivacious and kind woman and I know that she will be missed.
