David J. Edwards, of Hatchville Farm passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2016. He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Kathleen F. Byrne. Also survived by his son James, daughter-in-law Jennifer and grandson Nathan of AZ; grandson Trevor; son Scott of South Carolina; niece Susan, her husband John and their son Spencer. Dr. Edwards was revered by generations of patients in Bridgewater, MA where he practiced family dentistry for over 50 years. He was innately selfless, compassionate and kind. He was not only a gentle man, but also a gentleman. Dr. Edwards never refused to treat a patient whether it was a timing issue or an inability to pay. In the early years, some patients even paid him with chickens when their resources were limited. Dr. Edwards was regarded in the profession as an outstanding clinician with gifted hands and unquestionable knowledge. His positive attitude, unending spirit, generosity and graciousness touched everyone he met. A life-long fisherman, he loved his wide circle of friends and spent as much time as possible outside on his pond or fishing at the Cape Cod Canal. Dr. Edwards was a graduate of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine in Ohio. All who were blessed to have David touch their lives will dearly miss his kind soul. A tribute honoring Davids life will be held on Thursday, April 14th at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, MA 02324. So sorry to hear of Dr. Edwards passing. I loved going to the dentist as a kid because I got to see Dr. Edwards. I became a dental assistant because of him. I was never afraid nor in any discomfort, even with my many cavities . Such a sweet and kind man! RIP.

Dr David Edwards was my dentist around 1968 on. He lived in our neighborhood off South Street on South Drive in Bridgewater. That was when I first knew him and his family. I went to school with is daughter Celeste, (she was in my graduating class Bridgewater-Raynham 1974) and we have been friends all these years. Dr Edwards was the most skilled dentist I have ever had the pleasure of sitting in his chair. He had a master's command of his skilled hands and was a pleasure to talk to as he worked his craft almost effortlessly. So sorry to see him go,...We will all miss him very much.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr Edwards. I have been a patient at his practice since I was a little girl, now going on 40+ years. While being treated you felt like you were listening to a story being told by your Grandfather and before you knew it- you were done. His smile would melt away any fears.

So sad to hear of his passing, Dr. Edwards was like Dick Clark, never aged...he gave the best novacaine shots, never felt a thing. He was so gentle and caring. He told me he was squirting liquid, and I believed him as I never felt it until I had to have one in front of my mouth and saw the reflection in the fish tank. He will be sadly missed

I just heard of Dr. Edwards passing and so sorry to hear of it. He was my dentist from the time I was a little girl in Bridgewater to his time of retirement. Dr. Edwards became our family dentist when he first came to Bridgewater when I was in high school--over 50 years ago. He was indeed a gentle gentleman, and always a wonderful professional. He has been our dentist through many generations: my grandmother to my grandchildren!! When my grandmother was nearing her 100th birthday he would come to my car to help her into and out of the office so that she would not have to walk up the stairs. He did whatever he could to help her be comfortable in her final years. She, like all our family, adored him! He was such a caring, kind man. All our sympathy to Kathy and his family and the colleagues he has left befind. He will be missed!
