Alden Whittemore Obituary
Alden Hull Whittemore of Westbrook, ME, formerly of Windham, ME and Weston, MA died peacefully Saturday February 27, 2021. He was 93 years old and the beloved husband of Shirley K (Sutherland) Whittemore for almost 67 years. Born August 5, 1927 in Waltham, he was the son of Charles F. and Gladys M. (Ogilvie) Whittemore of Weston. Alden was raised in Weston, was a graduate of Weston High School, class of 1945 and attended the Wentworth Institute in Boston. He served proudly in the United States Navy as a first class Seaman during World War II in Africa and during the Korean Conflict on the USS Tarawa. After receiving his degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Alden worked for Trans Ocean Airlines as a Flight Engineer flying freight and passengers in the Middle East. In 1951 he began working full time for his grandfathers building materials company, B.L. Ogilvie and Sons Inc. Eventually he became the president of the company, now known as Ogilvies, retiring after 43 years. In addition to his wife Shirley, he leaves his devoted son Kevin Whittemore and wife Lisa of Wayland, MA, along with his adoring daughter Leslie Dicentes and husband Jay of Standish, ME. He was also the cherished grandfather of Emily Dicentes, Brian Whittemore and wife Ava, Molly St Hilaire and husband Marc, and Kayla Whittemore and fianc Salvatore Alfieri; proud great-grandfather of seven. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many. Alden was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Pauline Whittemore A true gentleman, proud but humble, Alden was known for his love of family. He enjoyed adventure and travel. Over the years he has taken part in many hobbies including flying, boating, camping, and snowmobiling. He and Shirley spent 23 winters in Venice, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary Charity Fund, Rotary District 7910, 470 Boston Post Rd, Suite 301, Weston, MA 02493, or to the Windham Veterans Center, PO Box 1776, Windham, ME 04062 . A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. A private interment will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Weston MA.
