Marjorie Giamo Obituary
Marjorie Dalzell Giamo of Weston, Massachusetts, died at the Metro West Framingham Hospital on April 13, 2012, following a period of declining health. She was born in Frenchboro, Maine, on July 30, 1918, to Milton and Vera (Ross) Dalzell. Marjorie graduated from Bridgton Academy and went on to attend Massachusetts School of Physical Therapy at Boston University. During World War II, Marjorie did her part by working first at Raytheon and later at Fore River Shipyard earning 75 cents an hour as one of the famous Rosy the Riveters. She has been interviewed by PBS and her name is on the memorial wall at the Rosy the Riveter Park in Long Beach, California. It was during this time that Marjorie met and married Frank Giamo. They operated the Ye Olde Cottage Restaurant in Weston for several years. Later they worked together manufacturing and selling safety arms for ladders. Marjorie also worked as a bank teller for many years and retired from Cambridge Trust. Marjorie was a founding member of the Congregational Church of Weston, United Church of Christ. She also spent several hours each week volunteering at the Council on Aging. Marjorie loved talking with people and made many lifelong friends during these years. Each year, when summer came, she would turn her attention to her beloved island birthplace, Frenchboro, Maine, where she maintained her familys home. She was often spotted entertaining family, friends and visitors who stopped by to chat on her front porch that faced the harbor. On the occasion of her 90th birthday party, the State of Maine presented Marjorie with a plaque proclaiming July 30, 2008, as Marge Giamo Day. While on the island, she supported the Frenchboro Congregational Church and always helped out at their annual Lobster Dinner fund raiser by making her delicious chicken salad which was served as an alternative to lobster. Marjorie also volunteered many hours at the Frenchboro Historical Societys museum where she would talk with visitors about the islands history. Above all else, Marjorie will be remembered for her kindness and concern for others, and she always tried to help her family and friends out in any way she could. Marjorie is survived by her son, Ross Giamo, and his father, Frank Giamo, of Weston, Massachusetts, her daughter-in-law, Paula Sue Giamo, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, her sister, Louise McLoughlin and her husband, Frank, of Hockessin, Delaware, and her sister, Elizabeth Dalzell of Orinda, California.
