Andrew Markey Obituary

Markey, Andrew William

May 8, 1983 - November 21, 2023

Drew Markey, 40, passed away on November 21, 2023 at Baptist Hospital following a bicycle accident. Drew was the son of a fiercely loving single mom, Carol Markey. She preceded him in death, along with his favorite uncle, Larry Jones; and his grandparents, Mary Markey and Andrew Markey. He shared a deep love with his best friend and wife, Lauren Carroll, who survives him. He also is survived by his two sisters, Emily Markey and Molly Markey; Molly's husband, Will Parham; their son, Milo Markey Parham; and Drew's aunt, Anne Markey Jones; as well as a large and cherished extended family and countless friends. Drew was the best of us. He loved openly, laughed often, and was a kind and gentle observer of the world. He was warmth, light, and joy. He had a soft soul and a big heart. We will find him in every spring flower, every blue sky. We will love him forever. In his final act of selflessness and love, Drew became an organ donor, saving and improving the lives of many people. We ask that if you want to honor Drew, do so in the ways that matter most to him. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Everytown for gun safety, or the Forsyth Humane Society.

A private memorial for Drew will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be made at www.russellfuneralservice.com (RUSSELL).

"Son of a fiercely loving single Mom, Carol Markey"
Their reunion does bring a glimpse of happiness and peace into this tragedy. I have the blessing of living beside Drew's sister, Emily. Although I never met Drew, from now on, I will think of Drew when I see spring flowers and blue skies. My heart just hurts for Lauren, Emily, Molly, Will, Aunt Anne and my New Best Friend, Milo. I wish so badly there was more that would heal this pain other than time and memories. as PaPa would say, "Just give it time." Love, Kim
