Helen Edwards Obituary

Deaconess Helen Davis Edwards

Feb 26, 1936 - Aug 29, 2024

I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course; I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

Deaconess Helen Davis Edwards, 88, of Winston-Salem, NC, entered into eternal rest on Thursaday, August 29, 2024, surrounded by her children at her bedside. Helen Davis Edwards was born in Goldsboro, NC, on February 26, 1936, to David John and Alice Powell Davis. Education was very near and dear to heart, she was a graduate of Atkins High School, Forsyth Technical Community College and "Honorary Graduate of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU). Her career path had many roads: over 50 years as a Stanley Home Products dealer where she was known as the "All Purpose Cream Queen", Avon Products, Western Electric and Service Master, owned and operated Edwards Daycare Vân Service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. She was faithful, selfless, loving, caring, kind and giving woman of God with a fiery sweet humble spirit.

Her life was a life well lived, 88 years filled with the joys of having dutifully served God, fallen in love with her high school sweetheart Robert James Edwards, to their union was born six children, Robert Jr., Kathleen, Nadine, Tyrone, Samuel and Amanda; helped raise her niece, Mary Alice, and nephew, Bobby. She loved talking on the phone for hours on end, traveling, fishing, gardening, and cooking. She mastered the best pickles and fish sandwiches (sammich). Her life legacy was her "Family" and living and working for the Lord which is her testimony to us. She was a devout spirit filled Christian and a significant figure at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, had a profound impact on countless Christian travels throughout the church and the Guilford Missionary Baptist Association. She definitely was a prayer warrior who lived and served the Lord all her life.

On August 29, 2024, Mother Helen laid down her burdens and slept peacefully away, surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded by her husband of 70 years, Deacon Robert J. Edwards; parents, David John and Alice Mae Davis; two sons, Robert Jr., and Samuel E. Edwards; father-in-law, Minister Sam M. Edwards; and two sisters, Pauline D. Carmon and Hilda Hope. Left to cherish her memory are four children, Kathleen Edwards-Dean (Nelson), of Lithia Springs, GA, Nadine Edwards, of Winston-Salem, NC, Tyrone Victor Edwards, Sr., (Teresa), of Lower Gwynedd, PA, Amanda L. Edwards, of Winston-Salem, NC. To continue her tradition of devoted love and parenting and delicious cooking are four grandchildren, Dr. Linsey Edwards-Drummonds (Lancelot), of New York, NY, Nadia B. Dean, of Lithia Springs, GA, Tyrone V. Edwards, Jr., of Alexandria, VA, Timothy John Dean, of Lithia Springs, GA, and Kevin M. Edwards, of Chestnut Hill, PA, Lucretia (Tim) Grant Ellwood, GA; and her great- grandchildren, Riley Elizabeth Edwards and London Simone, and Luca Adrian Drummonds, Mitchell, Destinee, Mia ans Deanna Gant.
