MOCKSVILLE - Mrs. Julia Lucille Dulin Smoot, 82, of Davie Academy Road died early Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Smoot was born May 4, 1922, in Iredell County to the late Phillip Parker and Julia Lentz Dulin. She was retired from the Davie County schools as a teacher. Mrs. Smoot graduated from the Iredell County schools and Mitchell College in Statesville and obtained her bachelor of science degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities, including church pianist, Sunday school teacher and as a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Smoot was a member of the N.C. Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid reader and enjoyed politics, traveling and growing indoor plants. Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Dulin. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, J.C. Smoot, of the home; a son, Jim (Teresa) Smoot, of Mocksville; a daughter, Susan (Ricky) Sims, of Mocksville; five grandchildren, Katherine Jean (Shannon) Duty, Amy Diane Smoot, Jason Matthew Smoot, Jonathan Richard Sims and Katherine Marie Sims; a great-granddaughter, Taylor McKenzie Duty; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Dulin of Troutman and Jeanette (Fred) Foster of Woodleaf. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 28, at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Blair officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family requests that memorials be considered for the building fund of Salem United Methodist Church, c/o Paul Shew, 1582 Davie Academy Road, Mocksville, NC, 27028. Eaton Funeral Service is serving the family of Mrs. Smoot.
