Letcher Hash Obituary

HASH Early Friday morning, May 23, 2008, the Heavens opened and God dispatched his angels to lovingly, quietly and majes-tically usher Letcher E. Hash into his new home in Heaven with our Lord. Our Heavenly Father peacefully transitioned our daddy and Paw Paw into Glory in the loving surroundings of his own home with his eldest son and youngest daughter at his side. "L.E.," as he was known by many, grew up in Woodlawn, Va., on his parents' farm where he cultivated a strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and love for his family. Letcher moved to Winston-Salem to manage Carpenter' s Body Shop where he quickly developed a reputation as the best auto-body repairman in Winston-Salem. A proud day for him was the opening of Hash' s Auto Body which he operated for more than 35 years. During the last five years, Letcher Hash faithfully attended and supported Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where his son, the Rev. Dwight Hash, is the pastor. He has been a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church in Woodlawn. Letcher Hash will be remembered by his family as the most giving, loving, caring father and grandfather any child could ask of God. He was lovingly referred to as Paw Paw by children, grandchildren, cousins, friends and neighbors. He was known throughout the city for his giving and caring nature and his legacy for reaching out to help anyone who needed a helping hand. Letcher Elmo Hash was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charlie and Jennie Hash; sisters Elizabeth Maxwell, Ruth Harrison, Viola Hash and Margaret Phelps; and a brother, Blaine Hash. He leaves to celebrate his life six children, Linda (Keith) Hinton of East Orange, N.J.; Thomas (Barbara) Hash of Piscataway, N.J.; Lesa Hash Cowan of Winston-Salem; the Rev. Dwight (Constance) Hash of Kernersville; Rella Joyce Hash of Rural Hall; and Robert Hash of Rahway, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Letcher was the brother of Paul and Harold Hash of Woodlawn; Juanita Harris of Winston-Salem; Lillie Mae Alexander (Willie) of Christiansburg, Va.; and June McKinney of Independence, Va. He is also survived by a special friend of 25 years, Sandra Wolfe of North Wilkesboro; and a trusted employee and friend, Donald Perry. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Bethany Baptist Church, Gladstone Lane off of Cranbury Road, Woodlawn, with a visitation from noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 27, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1711 N. Claremont Ave., Winston-Salem. To the Family,
I am sorry for your loss. I only knew him for a little over a year, but he touched my heart. He would pick on me about smiling all the time. But I couldn't help but smile when I saw him. He had happy eyes and a quick smile that I will miss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To The Hash Family;
We are sorry for you loss. Mr. Hash was a kind and loving man. He has worked on several cars for us and he often came to North Wilkesboro to visit with my cousin. I called him often to check on him, he took chemo with me sometimes on the same day, and his smile and encouraging words always kept me uplifted. He will truly be missed by all. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

My mother worked for Hash for over 25 yrs. before she passed in 2000. Hash was like a grandfather to me. He was the second nicest, most kind hearted person i know. When I would go see him he would often say how much he missed my mom, so I know that Hash and my mom are having a reunion like never before! I will miss you Hash...

To the entire Hash family: There is a light that each person radiates. It is an unconscious action. Mr. Hash's glow was one of kindness and strength. I know that you will miss his wonderful smile and his kind nature but please know that these things are gifts...blessings that no one can ever take always. You are all in our prayers.

To "The Hash Family"

We will miss Mr. Hash. He would give us advise on anything we needed to know about. He also enjoyed talking about his family. We would always listen to what he had to say. You can't find another man as good as he was. He was one of the nicest neighbors around here. If there is anything we can do please let us know. We love you and will keep praying God's speed as you go through.

We were so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. He was such a caring, loving man who will always hold a special place in our hearts. He shared so many things with us, Don working for him and his presence on our wedding day were two very special memories. May your memories always keep him close to your heart and may his wonderful love always remain with all those whose lives he touched. Our love and prayers.
